Updated: Mar 19, 2021

Weekly update - Our COVID-19 Response, 8th March 2021

Schools in Stockport are starting to fully re-open this week - thank you once again to all those who have helped with home schooling over the last couple of months.

Also, from today, two people from different households can now meet outdoors to socialise - but please continue to socially distance (2 metres) and regularly wash and sanitise your hands. To find out more information on how to stop the spread of Coronavirus click here.

International Women’s Day 2021

Happy International Women’s Day! Women have played a vital role in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic – regularly going over and above in their day jobs as well as taking on additional responsibilities and commitments outside of work too. This year International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate these achievements and recognise the ongoing contribution of women in Greater Manchester. This year’s theme is #ChoosetoChallenge, because from challenge comes change. I #ChooseToChallenge and took my pledge – see photo attached.

Stop Smoking Day - Wednesday 10 March

The benefits from quitting smoking start the moment you stop. It improves your physical health, boosts your mental health and wellbeing and saves you hundreds of pounds. Even if you’ve tried to quit before or smoked for many years, it’s never too late to quit so give it a go.

So, for you, or someone else you think might benefit, visit https://www.nhs.uk/smokefree for remote advice, or speak to one of our friendly advisors to find out about the support available locally to help you quit, call the START team on 0161 474 3141, email start@stockport.gov.uk or visit www.healthystockport.co.uk

Not all heroes wear capes

Well done to the 45 colleagues across Business Support who have come together to form a virtual team of step counters to “March through March”. We all know the importance of both mental and physical wellbeing, so the group have decided to take advantage of the lighter nights and better weather and have dusted off those Fitbits. Each colleague has set their own target and at the end of the month the team will add together their steps to see just how far they have walked – good luck to you all !

Have a good week.

Pam
